Emily Walton joins us from the Thames Valley District School Board where she has been teaching a Grade 5/6 split class. It was while teaching Science at a school in the United Kingdom that Emily first came to the realization that true education cannot be constrained within the four walls of a traditional classroom. Taking classes and the science club outside for experiential learning was where she saw real growth in students, personally and academically. She returned to Ontario eager to combine her love of the outdoors with her desire to educate.
Leading an active lifestyle is important to Emily, and she enjoys hiking, swimming, yoga, cycling and skiing. Capture the flag is her favourite outdoor game, and hiking the Bruce trail end to end is a personal goal.
Emily is familiar with small communities and their inherent strengths – she grew up on a farm in Southwestern Ontario. She is looking forward to sharing her strengths with our students as they participate in their own agricultural endeavours.
Emily holds a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education. She is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers.
Headwaters Academy is pleased to welcome Emily on board as part of our founding team.
