Simon Smith, MBA

Simon SmithSimon Smith has worked in the petroleum industry for the past 34 years and is currently a consultant to the industry and a member of the Advisory Board of Harnois Petroleum – a large independent petroleum marketer with operations across Quebec and Labrador based in Joliette Quebec. Simon spent over 30 years with Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil holding a variety of positions in marketing, sales and supply across Canada, Europe and the United States.


In 1997 he accepted a foreign loan assignment with ExxonMobil in Paris and spent three years as Marketing Director for Esso France before accepting a position as European Sales Manager for the Esso retail chain in Brussels. In 2001 Simon and his family returned to Canada where he accepted the position of Vice President of Imperial Oil responsible for Fuels Marketing. Under Simon’s leadership the On the Run brand and the successful retail alliance with Tim Hortons expanded and became one of the leading retail formats in the industry.  In 2011 he moved to Washington DC as North American Retail Sales Manager based in Fairfax VA and was subsequently appointed as Sales Director for the Americas responsible for retail sales across the Americas under the Exxon, Mobil and Esso brands. Simon retired from Imperial Oil in August of 2013.  In addition to supporting the development of Headwater’s engaging learning environment, Smith is eager to be part of a school that is committed to applying and establishing cutting-edge innovation in education.


Apart from consulting and serving on an advisory board Simon and his wife Barb  established a family foundation and is active in its granting process with a focus on education and health care. He is a graduate from the University of Toronto with a BA in Economics/Political science and an MBA with a focus on marketing and finance.

In his spare time Simon enjoys spending time at his cottage on Bolger Lake in the Parry Sound district and remaining active in a variety of sports both summer and winter.  Simon and Barb live in Toronto and have two children, Martin, who is studying in Pittsburgh and Sarah, who is currently working as an intern with a not for profit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
