Headwaters Academy is extremely proud to announce three results from this morning’s Georgian Bay Coyotes meet.
1st Place – Rae Chapman, Grade 1-2 Girls
1st Place – Cooper Loblaw, Grade 7-8 Boys
5th Place – Danica Usdenski, Grade 1-2 Girls
This marks a third year of extreme success in running events for our little school.
We do not recruit high level athletes – we do not even work specifically to train for podium results. What we do, instead, is get each child to internalize a simple question: “Am I doing my best?” They do not compare to one another – they run their own runs each morning. And, in class, they do not worry about what others’ are achieving – they worry about what they are achieving. When faced with problem solving they are encouraged to ‘start, then seek feedback,’ as opposed to traditional schools where students wait for their next instruction. All of these parts of our school culture lead to the excellence and resilience that our students demonstrate on the athletic field, at science fairs, and in mathematics.
Headwaters Academy – Where Excellence Takes Root
PS – an extra special congratulations is sent out to Danica Usdenski – by far the shortest student in her race, she unquestionably demonstrated that hard work trumps long legs.
